Cookies and local storage
The short version: this website sets no cookies at all. It stores one thing in your browser - which colour theme you picked - and nothing else.
1. What this site stores

That is the complete list. It holds one of three words - system, light or dark - it is written only when you press one of the theme buttons, it never leaves your browser, and it identifies nobody.
2. What this site does not do
- No analytics - no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no self-hosted counter.
- No advertising, remarketing or conversion pixels.
- No social media plugins, embedded players or third-party fonts loaded at run time.
- No session recording, heatmaps, A/B testing or device fingerprinting.
- No cross-site tracking and no data sold or shared with data brokers.
On the home page and on these legal pages, fonts, styles, scripts and images are all served from this domain - nothing on them calls out to another company while you read. A handful of pages left over from the previous website template still load fonts and icons from third-party CDNs; they are not linked from the current site and are being retired.
3. Why there is no cookie banner
Regulation 6 of the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 requires consent before storing or reading information on your device - unless the storage is strictly necessary to provide a service you have asked for.
We store nothing that requires consent. The single theme entry is written only after you press the theme button yourself, which is the service you asked for, so a consent banner would be asking permission for something that has already been your own decision. If we ever add analytics or anything non-essential, this page changes first and a proper consent mechanism appears before any such storage happens.
4. Cloudflare and other services
This site sits behind Cloudflare, which provides DNS, caching and protection against attacks. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies (such as __cf_bm or cf_clearance) to distinguish real visitors from automated abuse. None were observed on this site when this page was last reviewed, and such cookies would be exempt from consent as strictly necessary security measures.
Our products live on separate addresses - remote.etherneco.com, ssh.etherneco.com, finance.etherneco.com, pm.etherneco.com and the rest. They are applications with sign-in, so they set their own cookies and publish their own policies. This page does not cover them.
5. How to check and clear it
You can verify every word above: open your browser's developer tools, look at Application (or Storage), and inspect Cookies and Local Storage for this domain.
To remove what is stored, clear site data for www.etherneco.com in your browser settings, or use private browsing. The site works normally without it - you simply get the system theme again on your next visit. Blocking local storage entirely does not break any part of this site.
6. Changes
